I’ve almost become an angel! Who’d have thought it? Certainly not moi! But nevertheless, in a very small way possible, I’ve invested in somebody’s business.
The concept of micro-loans is something I knew nothing about until ten days ago, when I followed a link to Kiva, an organisation through which you can lend money to entrepreneurs of your choice in the developing world, to enable them to grow their businesses and improve their lives. The amounts they need are tiny by our standards, with individual loans from as little as $25. The loans are repaid over a period of a few months.
The Kiva website gives a fascinating insight into people in places all over the world as they try to develop their business ideas, and equally interesting is to read about the people who lend them the money they need.
Choosing an entrepreneur is difficult - they are all deserving - but this is my man for my first loan:
