For years I dreamed of a little wooden chalet in the garden, a place for only me, where I could write without interruptions or distractions, something difficult to do in a house full of animals and frequent unexpected guests and a hyperactive spouse. Several times the most beautiful and lyrical words ever almost written have assembled themselves at my fingertips, only to be chased out of reach by an unexpected external influence, and never found again.
The little wooden chalet dream was destined to be forever just that, a dream. But yesterday, it began to come true, with the arrival of a flat-pack containing all the 28 mm. Finnish timber required to create 11 sq. metres of personal space just for little old moi.
I am so excited! It will be a little while before the official inauguration of the chalet, the chalet-warming, takes place, because first of all we must build it and that is going to take two of us; at present we are only one, so patience is in order and so are enormous thanks to Jeremy and Lynette, whose unbelievable generosity has made this dream come true.

Susie, I would check VERY carefully that they have delivered everything for you. Mine arrived without its floor which came three weeks later after many phone calls and complaints!
On the plus side, it was really easy and really quite fun to put together. J is quite an expert – shame we’re too far away to lend a hand ;-D

Does the floor come in one piece? Or is it a collection of planks? The whole thing is contained in a packet in the shaple of a very large neat rectangle. I daren’t open the wrapping until Mr. gets back, because I’m sure all the pieces would spill out into the field and warp, or get run over by a tractor. So I can’t check for quite a while.

Congrats on the writing shack. As Virginia Wolf said, if a woman is to write she needs money and a room of her own…

Hi Sylvia
Well, that’s the “room of her own” sorted. Now for the rest.

Ours was the 34mm version of yours, I think. The floor had to be ordered separately and was in a separate packet. When the chaps delivered the chalet along with another toolshed and a shower, they swore that the floor should be in with the chalet, but it wasn’t. I had to chase Castorama for it and it turned up much later. I do advise that you check the order, the delivery slip and make sure you got as many packages as you should have.
I’m sure they don’t make a habit of it, I expect it was just our bad luck.
